6 Steps to Becoming a CPR Instructor
1. Getting Started
- Register for a scheduled Instructor Class on our website or call our office to schedule an onsite group Instructor Class
- Have a current American Heart Association BLS or Heartsaver Provider CPR(depends what discipline you plan to teach) and be proficient in all the skills
- Successfully complete the online Instructor Essential Course(provided by us)
- Successfully complete the in-person classroom Instructor Course
- Successfully complete being monitored teaching a BLS Course within six (6) months of completing the classroom Instructor Course
- Be accepted by an AHA Training Center
2. Meet the Prerequisites
- AHA instructors must be at least 18 years of age
- Have a current American Heart Association BLS or Heartsaver Provider CPR
- Align with Learn CPR 4 Life Training Center on the American Heart Association Instructor Network
3. Complete the Registration and Payment
- Registration and payment for the Instructor Course MUST be received before class. A portion of the fee is non-refundable if canceled. Register early because classes fill up quickly. There are no reservations without payment. Class confirmation and directions will be sent by email. Because the Instructor Course covers a lot of material in a relatively short time, advanced preparation is required. NOTE: All classes have an enrollment cutoff date. Registering after the cutoff date results in a late fee

4. Comply With the Textbook/Manual Policy
- AHA policy states, "Each student must have the current, appropriate textbook readily available before, during, and after the course." The BLS or Heartsaver Instructor Package that includes the Manual, Video and student textbook the class. You may purchase your Instructor Package and other items from us. Please call us for current pricing.
5. Align With an Authorized Training Center
- The American Heart Association requires instructor candidates to align with an authorized Training Center accepting new instructors when all Instructor Guidelines are met to sign up with a training center. Learn CPR 4 Life Training Center automatically aligns with all instructors who take Learn CPR 4 Life Instructor Courses and does not charge an additional alignment fee
- If a student is aligned with another Training Center, please inform Learn CPR 4 Life Training Center in advance and bring a completed Instructor Candidate Application to class signed by that Training Center's Training Center Coordinator
6. Complete the Required Course Monitoring
- Instructor candidate must have all required course equipment to prepare for final monitoring. Learn CPR 4 Life can assist with acquiring the needed items.
- Instructor status is granted, and an instructor card is issued after the student successfully completes the Instructor Course and demonstrates their teaching skills while being monitored during a discipline specific American Heart Association CPR Course. The monitoring must occur within six (6) months of completing the Instructor Course. If the student is aligned with another Training Center, monitoring will be done, and that Training Center will issue an Instructor Card
